Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has refused to accept Z plus security cover offered by the central government. Last week, the central government took this decision in view of the circumstances arising after the Amritpal Singh case. CM Mann’s security team wrote a letter to the Centre on Thursday.

CM Mann has said that he does not need Z plus security in Punjab and Delhi. For them, the special team of Punjab Police and CM Security is enough. The security team has argued that there could be a problem due to having 2 security circles (Punjab Police and CRPF) in Punjab and Delhi.

On May 25, the Central government had ordered to provide Z plus security to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The Union Home Ministry took this decision on the basis of reports of intelligence agencies related to VVIP security.

Talking about VVIPs Z plus security, it has 55 commandos in which 10 NSG commandos will cover the person. Most of these commandos are from the CRPF.

This move of giving security arose after the action initiated against pro-Khalistan activist Amritpal and his associates in Punjab. Intelligence agencies received some inputs after the bomb blasts near the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab and the ongoing protests in the country and abroad. CM Mann was said to be a threat due to the operation launched against Khalistan supporters.

CM Mann’s security agencies say that Punjab Police is fully prepared for his security. In the past, Punjab police commandos were prepared to provide security to the CM and his family. Under this, the security of his wife Dr. Gurpreet Kaur was also increased a few months ago.
