Chandigarh: Punjab Police lathi charged Sanjha Mazdoor Morcha who were protesting in front of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s residence in Sangrur on Wednesday.

The protesters led by seven trade unions, were lathi-charged by the police when they were attempted to march towards the residence of CM Mann, who is campaigning for AAP in Gujarat, to press for their demands.

The leaders pointed out that after the Chief Minister cancelled the meeting scheduled for October 3 with the Mazdoor Morcha, it was chaired by finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema and the demands were accepted in but not implemented till now.

They said that they were demanding daily wages of Rs 700, giving a third of the panchayat land to the laborers at a cheaper price, giving compensation to the farmers for the damaged cotton due to pink bollworm, giving plots to the homeless and needy, waiving loans, compensation to suicide victims, to increase the amount of old age, widows, disabled pensions to Rs 5,000 and to cancel the cases against farmers registered during the farm protests.
