Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a PSPCL lineman, identified as Mohinder Kumar posted at Khui Khera in Fazilka district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000.

According to the police, the accused has been arrested on the complaint of Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Bazidpur Kattianwali village, who also operates Balaji Milk Centre at the village.

A VB spokesperson said that the complainant had lodged a complaint with the VB unit Fazilka at VB Ferozepur Range that Lineman Mohinder Kumar had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 for settling the Balaji Milk Centre’s electricity bill amounting to Rs. 73,790 for month of April, 2023. 

The complainant told the VB that he had received the electricity bill of Rs.52,360 in February and the lineman took Rs. 21,000 from him to settle the electricity bill. 

He said in his complaint that when he received the bill of Rs.73,790 in April, he came to know that the amount of electricity bill of February was also included in the bill of April, so he approached the lineman again. The complainant alleged that thereafter, the lineman demanded additional Rs. 40,000.

The VC spokesperson said after preliminary investigation of the complaint, a VB team laid a trap and arrested the accused on the spot while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the presence of two officials. 

A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused.
