Amritsar: Ahead of the Central government is observing the martyrdom day of the younger Sahibzadas as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the SGPC, the apex body of the Sikhs, has rejected the Veer Bal Diwas being celebrated by the Government of India. He has appealed to celebrate it as “Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas.”
A notification was issued by the Centre to celebrate the martyrdom of Sahibzadas at the country level, in which this day was named as Veer Bal Diwas. The Committee of Sikh Scholars constituted by the Akal Takht had suggested that the day be renamed as ‘Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas’. The SGPC president accused the Centre of trying to “distort” the history of The Sikhs.
The government of India’s decision to celebrate the martyrdom day of sahibzadas as Veer Bal Diwas by going against the traditions of the Sikh community is a conspiracy to destroy the greatest martyrdom and valuable heritage in the history of religion of the world.
He said that if the government really wants to pay homage and respect to the Sahibzadas, then what is the problem in celebrating this day as Sahibzada Martyrdom Day.
He said the way the government was insisting on celebrating the martyrdom day of sahibzadas as Veer Bal Diwas, it was clear that the game was being played at the behest of anti-Panthic forces.
Kalka acting ad ‘poppet’of the centre govt: Dhami
Taking a dig at Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DSGMC) president Harmeet Singh Kalka, the SGPC president said the name ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ is not acceptable to the nation but still Kalka continues to act as ‘poppet’ of the central government.
