New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi reached Jantar Mantar on Saturday morning in support of wrestlers. She interacted with the protesting women wrestlers and got information related to the case.

The wrestlers are protesting against BJP MP and WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. They accused him of misusing his post and sexually exploiting several players.

The wrestlers said that they respect the order of the Supreme Court. But the protest will continue. “We don’t trust the Delhi Police, they can register a weak FIR. We will continue our struggle till his arrest.”

After meeting the players, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that if two FIRs have been lodged, then no one has received a copy of it. No one knows what is written in the FIR. If there are serious allegations against this person (WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh), then first remove him from the post.

Earlier, the Supreme Court on Friday heard a petition filed by the country’s top wrestlers against the alleged sexual misconduct by WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Amid protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar by wrestlers including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat, the Delhi Police, which works under Amit Shah’s Home Ministry, has registered two FIRs hours after the Supreme Court order.

One of the FIRs is on a complaint of sexual harassment by a minor. The second FIR pertains to allegations of sexual harassment levelled by other wrestlers. Sources said the Delhi Police will actively pursue the case.

BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said the wrestlers should have waited for the report of the committee set up to probe the matter before sitting on a sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

He said, “I am happy with the decision of the judiciary. Delhi Police will investigate the allegations and I am ready to cooperate with them in every possible way. There is no one bigger than the judiciary in this country.”
