Ottawa: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has congratulated Manitoba NDP leader Wab Kinew for winning provincial elections. 

The Prime Minister has spoken with the Premier-designate of Manitoba, Wab Kinew, who will be the first next premier and first Nations premier of Manitoba. 

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders discussed shared properties, including the importance of working together to make life more affordable, improve health care and housing. 

The two leaders also discussed steps for advancing reconciliation with Indigenous people and revitalization of downtown in Winnipeg.  

In the 57-seat legislature, Manitoba NDP won 34 seats while Progressive Conservatives could only get 22 seats. 

BC premier David Eby also congratulated the Manitoba NDP leader for winning the provincial elections.
