Chandigarh: Protesters demanding the release of Sikh prisoners in Chandigarh turned violent on Wednesday. They clashed with the police over entering Chandigarh.
During this, protesters pulled out swords and vandalised some vehicle. Following this, the police resorted to lathi charge and also used water cannons.
Some policemen have also been injured in this violent incident. Some protesters have been detained. Seeing the situation deteriorating, senior police officers reached the spot. Section 144 has been imposed in Chandigarh. The protesters are still gathered at Chandigarh border in Mohali. The Chandigarh Police is also on high alert.
Protesters wanted to gherao Punjab CM’s house
Protests have been marching towards Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence in Chandigarh since January 7 to hold protest demanding the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentence.
