Peace River, Alberta: A helicopter pilot is dead after a helicopter involved in firefighting operations crashed last evening in northwestern Alberta.

Two Transportation Safety Board investigators are heading to the scene.

Board’s spokesman Chris Krepski said an emergency locator transmitter signal indicated the helicopter was in a marshy area northeast of Peace River.

According to information, as of Thursday morning, Alberta had 117 active wildfires, 17 of which are considered out of control. 

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith offered their condolences to the family and those who knew him. — With Canadian Press.
