New Delhi: The Delhi High Court today sought response of the Centre and other stakeholders on a PIL challenging the permission granted to Sikhs to board domestic flights with gatras.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma issued notices to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Home Affairs, Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and DG Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and posted the matter for further hearing on November 15.
The court has directed the authorities to file their reply within eight weeks. According to a notification issued by the DGCA on March 4, Sikhs can travel on domestic flights with ‘gatra’ (Kirpan). Provided that the length of the gatra does not exceed 15.24 centimeters (6 inches).
