Chandigarh: The Punjab-Haryana High Court dismissed a PIL seeking martyr status to revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and his two companions, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who fought for the country’s Independence.

A division bench of Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha and Justice Arun Palli said in the judgment that by what authority they can ask to grant martyr status to Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, in which the Delhi High Court had also dismissed the petition.

The Bench said in the judgment that the petitioner has not produced any such law or record on the basis of which the decision can be taken.

Earlier the application was filed in the Delhi Court

The High Court asked the petitioner whether there is any such provision in the law under which the court has been empowered to give these directions? The petitioner did not have an answer to this question. Sonipat’s lawyer Bijendra Sangwan had earlier filed a petition in the Delhi High Court regarding this matter.
