Surrey: RCMP have been investigating a fatal collision incident that happened in the Whalley area on Tuesday.

In a press release, Surrey RCMP said officers responded to the incident around 4 pm on Tuesday after receiving a report of a pedestrian-motor vehicle collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 17.

“A Ford pickup was westbound on Highway 17 when a pedestrian attempted to cross the highway, northbound, between intersections. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, causing catastrophic injury,” Surrey RCMP said in a press release.

The victim, believed to be in his 30’s, was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Mounties, the driver of the pickup remained on scene and is cooperating with the police.

The RCMP said at this time, alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.
