Ottawa: The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) arrested and jailed an Ottawa area man for importing and owning prohibited weapons in the country.

Lachlan MacGregor of Ottawa was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment followed by three years of probation for importing and owning prohibited weapons.

Authorities have seized weapon including stun gun, flashlight stun gun, spring loaded baton, prohibited knives, a ballistic dart launcher, a bow and arrow, and a sword.

CBSA officials said in a statement on Thursday that in March 2022, border services officers at the Vancouver International Mail Centre intercepted a package containing a prohibited item known as a Taser destined for an address in Ottawa. This interception prompted an investigation by the CBSA Northern Ontario Region Intelligence and Enforcement Operations Division.

On April 14, 2022 the CBSA executed a search warrant at an address in Ottawa, Ontario. The search resulted in the seizure of six prohibited weapons, as well as five additional weapons.

MacGregor before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa pleaded guilty plea to the charges of unauthorized importation of prohibited weapons and possession of prohibited weapons.

“Enforcement actions like this ensure the continued safety and security of Canadians and their families. I want to thank the CBSA for maintaining the integrity of our borders and protecting our communities,” said Marco E.L. Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety.
