Ontario: Minimum wages are going to increase in Ontario from October 1. The minimum wages will now be $16.55 per hour.
At present, the minimum wages in Ontario are $15.50 per hour and are being increased by 6.8 percent. The government said that this increase will mean that a person who is getting minimum allowances and works 40 hours a week will benefit at least $ 2,200 every year.
Meanwhile, Labour advocates and opposition leaders said the Ontario government should raise the minimum wages to $20 an hour.
The Ontario Living Wage Network said that the wages are currently up to $19 in many parts of the province and more than $23 in the Greater Toronto Area.
