Ontario: Ontario’s former Liberal cabinet minister and municipal leader has now been appointed as the new president of the Liberal Party.

Catherine McGarry’s name for the post was announced on the final day of the party’s annual general meeting in Hamilton.

McGarry served as minister of natural resources and transport in the cabinet of former minister Kathleen Wynn, but lost her seat in her constituency Cambridge in 2018.

She then served as mayor of Cambridge for one term but lost again in October last year.

Other members of the ontario liberals’ new executive team include Damian O’Brien as executive vice president, Pankaj Sandhu as secretary and Tim Shorthill as treasurer. First of all, the team will now set the rules and timelines for the leadership race.
