Surrey RCMP currently has one man in custody after human remains were found roadside on 48 Avenue.

On May 21, 2021 at approximately 4:22 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a fire in a ditch on 48 Avenue near 168 Street. When the fire was extinguished by Surrey Fire Service, officers located human remains. At approximately, 5:00 a.m. one man was arrested for murder at a residence in Newton and has been taken into custody by Surrey RCMP.

This does not appear to be a random act. The investigation is still in its early stages, however this incident is not believed to have any connection to gang activity.

 The area surrounding the scene will be cordoned off for a significant amount of time. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called and will be working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase, no further information will be provided at this time. Further details will be handled by the IHIT Media Relations Officer early next week.
