Toronto: A two-month child was taken to the hospital in a critical condition after the incident that took place at a hotel in Markham, York regional police said.

After the incident, a large number of police personnel were present in the Highway 7 area on Woodbine Avenue. One person was taken into custody from the spot and there was no threat to public safety.

According to the address provided by the police, the incident took place in Monte Carlo Inn.

York police said they received a report at 2:10 p.m. that a two-month-old child had been badly injured at a hotel in Markham.

The child is undergoing treatment at the hospital and the police are investigating the matter.
