Chandigarh: Sandeep Bareta, the main accused and conspirator in the Bargari sacrilege case of Faridkot, has been arrested by the police. The accused was arrested from Bengaluru airport.
He was a member of the national committee of Dera Sacha Sauda Sirsa. He wad named as accused in all three incidents of sacrilege.
The court had also declared Sandeep Bareta and two other committee members Harsh Dhuri and Pradeep Kler as absconders in these cases. The Faridkot district police team has left for Bengaluru. In all the three incidents related to the case, the Punjab Police SIT has filed a charge sheet against Ram Rahim and other Dera followers.
On October 12, 2015, an incident of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji took place in Bargari, Faridkot. After this, Sikh organizations held protests in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan, which the police tried to end.
On October 14, police used force against protesters in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan. In Behbal Kalan, police opened fire, in which 2 Sikh youths were killed.
There was also firing in Kotkapura, in which about 100 protesters were injured. On August 7, 2018, the police had registered a case of intentional murder against unidentified people. About a month ago, the SIT had submitted supplementary challan in all three cases.
