Chandigarh: In a latest development, the Punjab police have arrested an NRI named Jaswinder Singh Pangli, an associate of Amritpal Singh from Phagwara on Sunday.
According to the information received, the police have arrested Jaswinder Pangli after Amritpal Singh escaped from Marnaiyan village of Hoshiarpur on March 28. Jaswinder Singh is a resident of Jagatpur Jatta village near Phagwara. He has been in Australia for the past few years and was scheduled to return on April 17.
Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh, the head of ‘Waris Punjab De’, has been on the run for almost 22 days. More than 5,000 police personnel conducted search operations at 150 bus stands and 300 deras in five states but he is yet to be arrested.
On the other hand, the Punjab Police has devised a new strategy to arrest Amritpal Singh. This is the reason that the leave of all policemen in the state has been canceled and any policeman who was out on leave has been called back, a senior police officer said.
Police sources say that efforts are being made to arrest Amritpal Singh before April 14. As part of its strategy, places like Ajnala, Attari, Ramdas, Khemkaran, Patti, Bhikhiwind, Baba Bakala have been barricaded and an extensive search is being carried out to trace him.
