Halifax: RCMP in Nova Scotia have recovered the body of a 52-year-old man who went missing over the weekend during massive flooding triggered by widespread rainstorms.

Police said he was one of four people, including two children, who were reported missing in separate incidents on Saturday when the cars they were in got submerged underwater.

Human remains have also been found in a different part of the search area, and police are working with officials on identification. 

Crews continue to assess the damage from the storm that brought monsoon-like rains to the province.

Six bridges have been destroyed and 19 others damaged.

CN Rail is dealing with a major washout on its main line about 90 kilometres north of Halifax, disrupting both freight and Via Rail service.

Canada Post is pausing mail delivery in Nova Scotia until it figures out which areas are safe.

A provincewide state of emergency will remain in effect until August 5th. — Canadian Press.
