New Delhi: In a big setback, the National Green Tribunal has imposed a fine of over Rs 2,000 crore on the Punjab government for not properly managing the solid and liquid waste that damages the environment.

According to information, the NGT had directed the state of Punjab to pay Rs 2,000 crore as environmental compensation for improper management of solid and liquid waste. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel issued this order.

Rajasthan was fined 3 thousand

The NGT had last week directed the Rajasthan government to pay Rs 3,000 crore as environmental compensation for improper management of solid and liquid waste.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel had held the state officials accountable for their contribution to pollution and failure to discharge their constitutional duties.

UP government was also fined 100 crores

Earlier the NGT had directed the Uttar Pradesh government to pay Rs 100 crore for inadequate management of liquid waste in Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli and Jaunpur districts. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said that as per the report of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the bio-remediation did not reduce the level of pollution. The bench also included Justice Sudhir Agrawal and expert member A Senthil Val.
