Jhota murder case: Talks between Punjab government and action committee
Talks between a three-member IAS committee appointed by the Punjab government and the family of slain anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota ended without a resolution on Monday, leaving his final rites stalled for more than a week.
The meeting — attended by IAS officers Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar and Apneet Riyat, Mansa Deputy Commissioner Navjot Kaur, DIG Harjeet Singh, and SSP Vaibhav Chaudhary — failed to reach an agreement after Jhota's family and members of an action committee presented a memorandum outlining their demands.
Family members, including Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh, and wife, Manpreet Kaur, insisted they will not perform the cremation or end their ongoing protest until all demands are met.
With Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to visit Punjab on Tuesday to offer condolences, the family plans to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to ensure an impartial inquiry into the murder and uncover all individuals involved.
