Pitt Meadows RCMP is advising about charges laid in theft-related incident
Pitt Meadows RCMP is advising that charges have been charged following a coordinated effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies across the Lower Mainland.
On October 1, Pitt Meadows RCMP responded to a report of a theft-related incident outside a retail store in the 19800-block of Lougheed Highway. A female suspect had been detained by loss prevention officers but allegedly fled the area with the assistance of a male associate in a vehicle who was reported to be in possession of a weapon.
The suspect vehicle was identified, and its details were shared with law enforcement agencies throughout the Lower Mainland.
On October 2, officers from the BC Highway Patrol Prohibited Driver Enforcement Team located the vehicle in Maple Ridge and established preliminary surveillance. Surveillance resources from Maple Ridge RCMP and Coquitlam RCMP Strike Force Team, with support from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (LMD IPDS), coordinated efforts to monitor the vehicle and its occupants.
The vehicle's occupants were safely taken into custody in Port Coquitlam after parking the vehicle.
Pitt Meadows RCMP maintained carriage of the investigation and subsequently forwarded a Report to Crown Counsel to the BC Prosecution Service.
On October 3, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges against Christian Darren Leggatt for possession of stolen property. On October 7, 2026, further charges of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, intimidation by threats or violence, and assault with a weapon were approved. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
The female passenger has been released on an undertaking with a future court date; no charges have been laid at this time.
"The coordinated efforts of the BC Highway Patrol, Maple Ridge RCMP, Coquitlam RCMP, LMD IPDS, and Pitt Meadows RCMP resulted in the safe arrest of these individuals while minimizing any risk to the public," says Pitt Meadows Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant Michelle Luca. "This underscores the importance of information sharing and coordination between jurisdictions, as investigations frequently extend beyond the boundaries of a single community."
