On September 22, the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a 31-year-old suspect in connection with a fire set beneath a small railway bridge near the Empress Avenue and Westway Avenue crossing over Omand’s Creek.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., West District General Patrol officers responded to the fire and observed flames and smoke coming from beneath the structure. Attending Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service personnel extinguished the fire. The suspect had the area prior to police arrival.

At 8:45 p.m., officers located the suspect in the 600 block of Erin Street and arrested him without incident.

Dylan Dorrie, 31, is charged with arson causing damage to property, fail to comply with probation order (existing warrant), following consultation with the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Police Service, DORRIE was also charged under the Railway Safety Act for unlawfully entering railway property without lawful excuse.

The railway bridge sustained damage as a result of the fire; however, the structure remains operational. A damage estimate is not yet available.

Dorrie was detained in custody pending further court proceedings.
