Eight hundred and fifty students and families across Abbotsford are starting the school year with the supplies and support they need to succeed, thanks to the Abbotsford School District's annual Back-to-School event.

 Now in its eighth year, the community-driven initiative brought together local organizations, volunteers and donors to provide backpacks, school supplies and food hampers to families ahead of the first day of school.
"Every student deserves to begin the school year with the tools and confidence they need to succeed," said Dr. Nathan Ngieng, Superintendent of the Abbotsford School District. "We are incredibly grateful to the many
organizations, volunteers and community members who continue to make this event possible. Their generosity supports hundreds of families every year, and reflects the caring and supportive community that helps our
students thrive."
This year's program was supported by dozens of dedicated District staff and community volunteers who helped collect, organize, pack and distribute supplies to local families. Through the support of community partners and
sponsors, families received backpacks filled with essential school supplies, along with food hampers containing dry goods, fresh fruit and vegetables, bread and milk.

Following the distribution, families were invited to gather and connect over a community barbecue hosted by The Salvation Army. This created a welcoming opportunity for families to celebrate the beginning of a new school year together.

Since its launch eight years ago, the Back-to-School Backpack and Food Hamper Program has grown from supporting approximately 300 students and families to 850 this year. The growth reflects the strength of
community partnerships and a shared commitment to helping students arrive at school feeling prepared,
supported and ready to learn.

The Abbotsford School District extends its sincere appreciation to the many volunteers, sponsors and community partners whose generosity made this year's event possible, including: Feeding Futures, Archway Community
Services, Salvation Army, Canucks for Kids Fund, Aggressive Towing, Kiwanis Club of Clearbrook, Nova Dental, Christian Life Community Church, and Abbotsford Youth Commission.
