Burnaby RCMP investigating stranger sex assault on walking path

Burnaby RCMP is investigating a sexual assault that took place along a walking path in the southeast part of the city.

On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Burnaby RCMP received a report of a sexual assault that took place along a section of the BC Parkway, across from Ron McLean Park near Rumble Street and Hedley Avenue. The victim reported she had been heading eastbound on the path between 5:15 PM and 5:30 PM, when an unknown man passed her and then hit her on the buttocks before running away. The victim was not physically injured in the incident.

Though the man fled immediately after the assault, investigators have been provided with some details about his appearance. The suspect is described as being about 5’5” tall, with a medium build, and was wearing a white T-shirt and loose-fitting black shorts.

Investigators are continuing to look for potential evidence in the case to help identify the person responsible. Police want to ensure the public is aware of this incident, and continue to remain vigilant and take appropriate safety precautions, including:

Stay alert and aware of your surroundings while out walking (avoid wearing headphones)

Try to avoid walking alone after dark or in dimly lit settings. If possible, walk with another person or a group

Plan your route ahead of time and try to stay away from isolated areas

Immediately report any suspicious activity to police
