Vancouver Police arrest prohibited driver following ALPR alert

Vancouver Police arrested a prohibited driver June 18 after an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) system in a police vehicle pinged the car as having inactive insurance and being operated by a prohibited driver.

Police attempted to stop the vehicle near Howe and Robson, but the driver fled through an underground parking garage. As the vehicle exited the parking garage at Hornby and Robson, the driver struck a tree. Officers were able to safely take the man into custody without further incident.

The driver, a man in his 30s, sustained minor injuries in the collision and was transported to hospital for treatment. He was later released from custody on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing and numerous charges will be recommended.
