No more free food in Air India domestic flights
Financially struggling, Air India has introduced a new “Basic Fare” category on select domestic routes, offering passengers a lower-cost travel option that does not include complimentary meals.
The airline said Monday that the new fare is entirely optional and is aimed at travellers seeking cheaper tickets without additional onboard services.
Air India will continue to offer its existing Value, Classic and Flex fare categories, which include complimentary meals and other benefits. Prices increase across those categories according to the services provided.
The carrier said the Basic Fare has been launched as a pilot project on selected domestic routes amid rising operating costs.
Under the new fare, economy-class passengers will be entitled to carry up to 15 kilograms of checked baggage and 7 kilograms of cabin baggage. Complimentary beverages such as tea and coffee will still be available, but meals will not be included.
