Two deceased following hunting accident in Resolute Bay
On June 6, at approximately 11:30 pm, Resolute Bay RCMP received a report that a youth had walked to the community and reported that he had gone through the ice with two other adults. The three were travelling on one snowmobile, when they broke through the sea ice.
Resolute Bay Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) assisted the local detachment in recovery efforts about 12 km southeast of Resolute Bay. One adult male (age 49) was located deceased. The second adult (age 35) could not be located.
On June 7, at approximately 3:30 a.m. the search was called off, and the second person is presumed to have drowned.
The Resolute Bay RCMP are investigating the incident with Nunavut Coroner Services.
