Royal Columbian hospital to open new emergency department on May 31
On Sunday, May 31, Royal Columbian Hospital will open a new Emergency Department, main entrance, medical/surgical and critical care patient units and parking facilities.
The new Emergency Department and main entrance are located at the new Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower at the corner of East Columbia Street and Sherbrooke Street.
Emergency Department
The new Emergency Department will open on May 31 at 5:00 a.m. The old Emergency Department will close to new admissions at the same time.
People who have already been admitted to the Emergency Department will be assessed to determine when they can be safely discharged or transferred to an appropriate department.
Call 9-1-1 or go to the Emergency Department for critical or life-threatening conditions, such as broken bones, severe breathing problems, or severe bleeding. Visit fraserhealth.ca/careoptions to learn more about the care options available to you.
Main Entrance
The new main entrance at the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower will open at 7:00 a.m. on May 31. The old main entrance and drop-off area will remain open.
Parking
Effective Sunday, May 31 at 5:00 a.m., parking will be available outside on the ground level and level P1 of the Jim Pattison Acute Care Tower parkade. Enter the parkade from Sherbrooke Street or Keary Street. There is also a drop-off area outside the new main entrance.
Visiting
As we are moving patients to the new tower that day, visiting in the late afternoon is preferred. Volunteers will be available to help patients and visitors find their way around. There will also be information, maps and signage throughout the hospital.
