Punjab MC polls: Majithia accuses officers for non-cooperation
Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia Thursday accused officials in Majitha of deliberately withholding no-objection certificates from candidates of the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of upcoming municipal council elections in Punjab.
Majithia alleged that the executive officer (EO) of the Majitha Municipal Council refused to issue the required certificates to Akali Dal candidates, despite repeated requests from party representatives.
According to Majithia, party leaders, including Dilbag Singh and Salwant Seth, visited the executive officer’s office seeking the documents and submitted written assurances that any discrepancies related to house tax or other paperwork would be corrected if given the opportunity.
He claimed the officer left the office instead of meeting party representatives, despite what he described as a crucial period in the election process.
Majithia also accused Talbir Singh Gill of staging what he called a “drama” by publicly appearing to instruct the official to issue certificates to all candidates.
The senior Akali leader alleged the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government was undermining free and fair elections and depriving voters of their democratic rights.
He also criticized the Punjab State Election Commission, accusing it of remaining a “silent spectator” during alleged irregularities in the nomination process.
