Uttarakhand minister accuses Punjabi singer Daler Mehandi of discrepancy
A performance by prominent Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi descended into commotion on Sunday night after a Uttarakhand (Indian province) state cabinet minister confronted the artist on stage over performance quality and event decorum.
The incident occurred during a cultural evening at the historical Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Narendranagar, Tehri district.
Audience members reportedly expressed frustration over a discrepancy between Mehndi's live singing and the background audio track, prompting local MLA and Forest and Health Minister Subodh Uniyal to intervene directly on stage.
Video circulating on social media shows the minister reprimanding the singer, urging him to maintain the sanctity of the religious Navratri festival and the quality expected by the audience.
While allegations surfaced suggesting the singer was under the influence of alcohol, local authorities have not officially confirmed those claims.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ashish Ghildiyal stated that despite the brief disruption, the program was completed as scheduled.
