Multi-Vehicle Collision on Alex Fraser Bridge
On Friday October 9th, at around midnight, Delta Police were dispatched to a report of a multi-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of the Alex Fraser Bridge. Upon attendance, it was determined that nine vehicles had been involved. Two people involved in the collision were taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The southbound lanes of the bridge were closed for several hours while crews worked to remove the debris and vehicles from the bridge deck. The bridge was reopened to traffic just before 4 am.
Police are still working to determine the cause of the collision but witnesses stated that there was an initial collision between two vehicles followed by a chain reaction of other vehicles that were not able to stop in time before colliding themselves. Impaired driving has been ruled out, but speed may be a contributing factor. The incident is still under investigation.
Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of the Alex Fraser Bridge around the time of the collision is asked to contact the Delta Police.
