Man Wanted for Attempted Murder Since 2023 Arrested
Investigators with Peel Regional Police's Major Crime Unit have arrested and charged a suspect in an attempted murder investigation who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for more than three years.
On Sept. 22, with assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), 36-year-old Nakeem Jamar Johnson was arrested in Cross Lake, Manitoba. Johnson had been wanted since 2023 in connection with an attempted murder investigation.
The investigation began on February 3, 2022, when Peel Regional Police responded to a shooting in the area of Queen Street East and Rutherford Road in Brampton. An adult male victim was located suffering from gunshot wounds and sustained serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
On May 8, 2023, investigators executed search warrants at multiple locations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). As a result, officers seized five firearms, approximately 10 kilograms of methamphetamine, and significant quantities of fentanyl and cocaine.
Following the investigation, a Canada-wide warrant was issued for Johnson's arrest on the charges including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking, knowledge of unauthorized possession, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited device.
Johnson was subsequently transported by Major Crime Unit investigators from Winnipeg to Brampton, Ontario, where he was held for a bail hearing.
