Following a four-week jury trial, two men have been convicted in relation to the 2022 double homicide of Meninder Dhaliwal and Satindera Gill in Whistler.

On July 24, 2022, at approximately 12:19 p.m., Sea-to-Sky Whistler RCMP responded to multiple reports of two men being shot in Whistler Village, in the 4300-block of Sundial Crescent. One victim died at the scene, while the other died a short time later after being transported to hospital. As a result of the dynamic response and rapid evidence collection by officers, Sea-to-Sky RCMP were able to locate and apprehend multiple individuals. Police also located a burning vehicle involved in the shooting in the 3300-block of Ptarmigan Place in Whistler.

IHIT deployed to Whistler and worked closely with Sea-to-Sky RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), the BC Coroners Service, and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) to advance the investigation.

The victims were identified as 28-year-old Meninder Dhaliwal and 36-year-old Satindera Gill. Investigators determined that the shooting was targeted and related to the ongoing gang conflict.

On July 25, 2022, the BC Prosecution Service approved two counts of first-degree murder against Gursimran Sahota and Tanvir Khakh in relation to the murders of Mr. Dhaliwal and Mr. Gill. Both accused were detained by the court and have remained in custody since their arrests.

On September 1,  a jury trial commenced at the BC Supreme Court in Vancouver before Justice Gropper. The trial concluded on September 25, 2026.

On September 25,  the jury found  Sahota, now 29, and  Khakh, now 25, guilty of first-degree murder in relation to the homicide of  Dhaliwal.

The jury also found  Sahota guilty of second-degree murder in relation to the homicide of  Gill. Prior to jury deliberations, Justice Gropper directed the acquittal of  Khakh in relation to the homicide of  Gill.

A conviction for first-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence, with a mandatory order that  Sahota will have no eligibility for parole for 25 years. The conviction for second-degree murder of  Gill also attracts a life sentence; the jury recommended that Mr. Sahota serve 20 years prior to being eligible to apply for parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
