Comox Valley RCMP is currently investigating an aggravated assault that occurred at North Island College early this morning.
At approximately 12:53 a.m. frontline officers responded to multiple calls reporting an assault with an edged weapon at one of the residence buildings on the college campus. When police arrived on scene, they quickly located two victims who had sustained injuries, then identified and arrested the suspect.
The scene remains secured as investigators continue their examination and gather evidence. Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime Unit will be continuing with the investigation and are being assisted by the Island District Forensic Identification Section.
Comox Valley RCMP Victim Services is engaged to provide support to both victims and witnesses affected by this event. North Island College is also offering immediate and ongoing support to their staff and students affected by this event. 

The investigation remains in its early stages, and officers are working diligently to uncover all of the circumstances surrounding this disturbing incident," said Cst. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley
RCMP. "The motivation behind the assault remains under investigation. Police are working closely with North Island College as the investigation continues.
While investigators continue to determine exactly what led to this incident, there is no information at this time to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety. The swift arrest of the suspect and continued police presence are intended to help ensure the safety and reassurance of students, staff, and the broader community.
The suspect, a 21-year old Burnaby man, remains in custody pending an appearance in court. The two victims were transported to hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.
