Saanich RCMP warns residents about crypto currency scam

North Saanich RCMP is warning residents about a recent cryptocurrency scam after a local resident reported losing nearly $19,000.
On September 2,  a Sidney resident reported that he had received a phone call from a man claiming to be an RCMP officer.

The caller stated that the victim’s personal information had been leaked and convinced him to provide sensitive information related to his cryptocurrency account.

After providing the information, the victim discovered that nearly $19,000 had been withdrawn from his account. When he was unable to contact the caller again, he realized he had been the victim of fraud.
Sidney/North Saanich RCMP reminds the public that police will never request banking passwords, cryptocurrency account credentials, or other sensitive financial information
