Police in Punjab have taken one suspect into custody following the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man in an alleged honor killing outside a bus terminal.

The victim, identified as Jagjit Singh Jeet of Kadgill village, was attacked Sunday with sharp-edged weapons outside the Tarn Taran bus stand, dying at the scene.

Police allege the attack was carried out by his brothers-in-law, Jaspreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, following an elopement a month prior. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jaspal Singh said the woman's family opposed the marriage, which followed an alleged abduction.

According to the victim's father, Tarsem Singh, the family had not suspected impending violence, noting the woman's mother had visited the couple's home earlier that day.

Authorities have charged both suspects under sections 103 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police team led by City Station House Officer Paramjit Singh Virdi arrested one suspect, while a search remains underway for the second man. Police confirmed during the initial probe that the victim had previously married another woman from the same village before the union ended.
