Water levels across Punjab’s major reservoirs—including the Bhakra, Pong, and Ranjit Sagar dams—remain significantly lower than last year's figures as the monsoon season approaches its final weeks.

According to data recorded as of August 27, reduced inflow throughout this year’s monsoon has left considerable storage capacity vacant across all three major impoundments. The water level at the Bhakra Reservoir stood at 1,634.22 feet—37.27 feet below last year's level for the same date—leaving it at 64 per cent capacity. Water levels at the Pong Dam dropped 27.33 feet compared to last year to reach 1,365.67 feet, while the Ranjit Sagar Dam recorded a 12.27-metre decline.

Daily inflows have also seen a steep drop. Inflow into Bhakra was recorded at 30,452 cusecs, down nearly half from 58,997 cusecs on the same day last year. Pong Dam recorded an inflow of just 22,202 cusecs, while inflow into the Ranjit Sagar Dam on the Ravi River stood at 7,073 cusecs.
