Two young males are facing charges after robbing a victim at knifepoint in Oshawa
On Wednesday, August 19, at approximately 5:45 p.m., members of Central East Division responded to a robbery call in the area of Hillcrest Drive and Dean Avenue. The victim arranged to meet the suspect through an online marketplace to purchase a cell phone.
During the exchange, a second suspect approached and threatened the victim at knifepoint while demanding the victim’s wallet. Both suspects fled the area prior to police arrival.
In addition to officers, the Drone as First Responder (DFR) program was deployed to help locate, track, and contain the suspects, while providing situational awareness to support responding officers.
The DFR immediately began searching the surrounding area and located two individuals matching the suspect descriptions entering a nearby vehicle. The DFR tracked the vehicle and provided continuous updates to responding officers until a traffic stop was conducted.
A responding officer initiated a traffic stop and both suspects fled the vehicle on foot. The DFR tracked the suspects through a residential neighbourhood and guided officers to their location, where both were arrested following a brief foot pursuit.
The victim did not suffer any physical injuries.
