Majitha hints SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab
Senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia Friday indicated that both his party and BJP may align in the upcoming assembly elections. Majithia said that people of Punjab want both SAD and BJP to form an alliance and the leaders from both the parties will clear the air in the coming days.
Majithia further said that both the parties parted ways during the farmers protest in 2021 but now the situation has changed in Punjab.
SAD had to call off the alliance due to the public and farm organisations pressure.
"There are serious issues like deteriorating law and order, people want both the parties to come together," Majithia added.
SAD and BJP came in an alliance in the state in 1997 and stayed together till 2021. SAD and BJP alliance came to power in Punjab in 1997 under Parkash Singh Badal, in 2007 and then in 2017.
Both the parties contested the 2022 elections separately and failed to impress upon the people.
SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this moth, prompting alliance talks.
