Single vehicle collision leads to drug seizure
On August 19, at approximately 8:45 p.m., West Shore RCMP Frontline officers responded to a report of single vehicle collision involving a pickup truck near the intersection of Island Hwy and Wale Rd in Colwood.
A witness advised police the vehicle had been conducting a stunting maneuver by burning out the tires prior to crashing into the telephone pole. Police attended and identified the driver as a 53-year-old man whose drivers license had been suspended.
Though the driver was determined to be sober, during the investigation, police observed evidence of illicit narcotics within the vehicle and the driver was arrested in relation to drug trafficking related offences.
Police searched the vehicle and seized large quantities of narcotics including approximately 240 grams of suspected methamphetamine; approximately 98 grams of suspected cocaine; drug paraphernalia.
The driver was charged with several motor vehicle infractions including driving without due care and attention, having tinted windows on the vehicle, and stunting. The pickup truck was also impounded. The drug trafficking investigation is still ongoing.
