Police use water cannons on protesting employees
Water cannons were used by the police thrice on Friday to break up a crowd of Punjab state government employees and pensioners who were demonstrating against the unfulfilled promises made by the government.
This protest started near the grain market in Sector 39 with protestors rallying against the administration of the AAP government in Punjab as members of the unions of government employees and pensioners joined forces for the protests. The situation became heated when the protestors tried to march to Punjab Legislative Assembly, which prompted police intervention.
Even after repeated attempts by the police to use water cannons on them, the union members stayed put, creating chaos in Sector 39, Sector 40, and the surrounding areas.
The leaders of the union said that it was a clear stand of the employees against the reneging of the promises by the state government about employee welfare.
