The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has deployed to Maple Ridge following an altercation that left one man dead.
On May 31, 2026, at approximately 6:51 p.m., Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a fight in progress in the 22300 block of River Road, Maple Ridge. Upon arrival, police located a 28-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the man died at scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) deployed and assumed conduct of the investigation.
IHIT continues to work in close partnership with the Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
Investigators believe this was an isolated and targeted incident, where the parties involved were known to each other. The investigation is ongoing; however, the incident is not believed to be related to gang activity.
“Thanks to the quick actions taken by Maple Ridge RCMP officers, the scene was contained quickly which allowed investigators to preserve critical evidence,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “A number of witness interviews are underway as investigators piece together the events leading up to the altercation. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this very difficult time.”
