Impaired driving investigation pursued after vehicle crashes into fence and fire hydrant

On May 26, at approximately 10:42 a.m. West Shore RCMP Frontline officers responded to the area of Royal Bay Drive and Promenade Crescent in Colwood, after receiving several reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a fence and then a fire hydrant in the area.

Officers conducted patrols and located the suspect vehicle, a 2007 Ford Focus, nearby on Bunker Rd.

Police observed the driver of the vehicle to be exhibiting signs and symptoms of drug impairment and pursued an impaired driving investigation. The driver, who is identified as a 41-year-old male was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition under the Motor Vehicle Act and the vehicle was impounded. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

West Shore RCMP thanks the callers for alerting police right away. Their quick actions in reporting the collisions allowed Police to locate the vehicle and suspect driver, preventing any further harm. If you see dangerous driving activity, find a safe location to pull over and call police to report it.
