A suspect in a Downtown Eastside homicide has now been formally charged.

The BC Prosecution Service laid a charge of second-degree murder charge against 27-year-old Braden Levine Ollenberger yesterday.

Ollenberger remains in custody.

 A man succumbed to injuries sustained in an alleged stabbing near East Hastings and Columbia Street yesterday. 

VPD officers responded to the area on Wednesday at 2:32 a.m. after witnesses called 9-1-1. The victim was transported to hospital where he later died.

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old James Andrew Slater.

A man and a woman have been arrested but no charges have been laid at this time.
