Punjabi origin man charged for extortion in Surrey

One man has been arrested and  charged with a Criminal Code offence following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into a shooting incident at a residence in the early morning hours of April 13.

The man identified as Jaskaran Saroye, a 27-year-old male, has been charged with discharging a firearm into a place, knowing or being reckless as to whether someone was present. Jaskaran Saroye has been remanded in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing. The next scheduled court date is May 12.

On April 13, at approximately 2:52 am, SPS Frontline officers responded to calls of shots fired in the area of 94A Ave and 127 St, Surrey. Police confirmed damage to the residence. Although the residence was occupied at the time of the shooting, no one was injured.

SPS's Extortion Response Team (ExRT) took over the lead on the investigation, a suspect vehicle was identified, and a search warrant was obtained. SPS ExRT members executed the warrant on a residence in Surrey with the assistance of the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, and other SPS teams. One man was arrested during the execution of the warrant and is now charged with one Criminal Code offence.

“This arrest and charge reflect the determined work of our officers to hold those responsible for gun violence accountable,” said Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “Discharging a firearm into an occupied home is an extremely serious offence, and while we are thankful no one was physically harmed, incidents like this are profoundly dangerous and frightening for those affected. Our investigators will continue to pursue all individuals and networks involved in violent criminal activity.”

SPS released Jaskaran's picture and  is asking anyone who has information on him to contact SPS’s non-emergency number at 604-599-0502, the Surrey Extortion Tip Line at 236-485-5149, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca if you wish to remain anonymous.

In September 2025, the Surrey Extortion Reward Fund of $250,000.00 was established to offer individuals with key information the ability to collect a reward if charges and convictions of those responsible for these crimes are secured.
