City of Surrey seeks feedback on a draft concept plan for Unwin park

The City of Surrey is seeking feedback on a draft concept plan for Unwin Park, developed using input from the first round of public engagement held in November.

“This Council has continued to listen to residents to understand their needs as part of the Focus Newton initiative, and we are excited to share this new draft plan for Unwin Park,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Featuring new and improved sports fields, facilities for cricket, volleyball and pickleball, as well as washrooms, parking, walking paths and more, I invite everyone to review the plan and share feedback to help ensure the park reflects community priorities.”

Located in the heart of Newton, Unwin Park spans 15 hectares (36 acres) and features a wide range of amenities, including a water park, outdoor pool, lacrosse boxes, games court, and Surrey’s largest inclusive playground.

During the first phase of engagement, more than 1,500 participants shared how they use the park and what amenities they would like to see. Many asked for new sport facilities and also shared their thoughts about park access, safety, and creating a space that serves people of all ages.

The second phase will present an early concept plan that aims to integrate various recreational and leisure amenities for people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and interests. It also includes comfortable gathering spaces where friends, families and neighbours can come together, as well as plans to retain and enhance natural areas, including forests and wetlands.

Residents are invited to provide feedback on the plan by completing an online survey at surrey.ca/Unwinpark between May 4 and May 29 and sharing ideas with City staff at “Planner in the Park” events in Unwin Park on May 9 (10 a.m.-12 p.m.), May 13 (3-5 p.m.) and May 14 (8-10 a.m.)
