Winnipeg man faces additional charges including alleged threat against prime minister
A Winnipeg man already in custody is facing additional charges related to alleged hate offences and a threat against Canada’s prime minister, the RCMP said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say officers with Federal Policing Northwest Region’s National Security Enforcement Section in Manitoba laid three new charges on March 30 against 55-year-old Jason Paul Rindall.
Police allege Rindall has been charged with advocating genocide and wilful promotion of hatred under the Criminal Code, as well as uttering a threat to cause death to Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Rindall remains in custody and is scheduled to appear next in Winnipeg provincial court on April 24.
Mounties say the investigation is ongoing and no further details will be released while the matter is before the courts.
The RCMP is urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, noting that tips related to national security can be submitted through its reporting channels or by contacting local police in the event of an immediate threat.
