Three teens arrested after alleged $14,000 Pokémon card robbery in Vancouver
Vancouver Police Department say three teenagers have been arrested following an alleged violent robbery involving high-value Pokémon cards.
Police say officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a report of a robbery in progress near East King Edward Avenue and Ontario Street. Investigators allege a man was bear-sprayed while attempting to sell two Pokémon cards through Facebook Marketplace, each valued at approximately $7,000.
The suspects allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle with the cards but were located a short time later by officers in Burnaby, near Macpherson Avenue and Beresford Street, where they were arrested.
Police say one of the stolen cards has since been recovered and returned to the victim.
The three suspects — two 15-year-old boys and one 16-year-old boy — were released from custody with conditions. Police say they are recommending criminal charges.
Const. Darren Wong said the incident highlights the risks of meeting strangers for online transactions.
“It’s a reminder that if you are planning on buying, selling, or trading items with someone you don’t know, use our Safe Exchange location,” Wong said, noting the designated area is located outside police headquarters at 2120 Cambie St.
Police continue to investigate.
