B.C. Premier Marks Earth Day with Call to Protect Environment for Future Generations
British Columbia Premier, David Eby is urging British Columbians to reflect on the province’s natural beauty and recommit to protecting it, as part of an Earth Day message highlighting environmental stewardship and climate action.
In a statement released Tuesday, Eby said British Columbia is home to “some of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth,” from rugged coastlines to towering mountains, and emphasized the importance of preserving those environments for future generations.
He noted that residents across the province are already contributing through volunteer efforts, waste reduction and sustainable living practices, adding that government initiatives are also underway to strengthen ecosystem protections, safeguard clean water and expand clean-energy development.
Eby underscored the role of partnerships with First Nations, saying Indigenous knowledge and leadership are key to advancing environmental protection while supporting reconciliation and economic growth.
“Together, we can ensure British Columbia remains a place where the beauty of our lands, waters and wildlife inspires generations to come,” he said.
Environment and Parks Minister Tamara Davidson echoed the premier’s message, describing the province’s natural surroundings as a daily source of inspiration.
Davidson said collaboration with communities, First Nations and organizations is central to ongoing efforts to protect the environment, adding that everyday decisions made by individuals can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future.
She encouraged British Columbians to consider the environmental impact of their choices, noting that collective action plays a critical role in shaping long-term outcomes for the province.
